Join friends or meet new players for an elevated Mahjong gathering where beautiful tables, brunch, and hospitality create space for connection, conversation, and community. This fall celebration brings together the Twin Cities Mahjong community for a memorable day of play at the Minneapolis Club.

Curated Tables
We plan tables for casual and fast players - and those in between. Choose your games-per-hour preference during registration and we’ll do our best to seat you. Play fast and exhilarating rounds, a quick and capable tempo, or casual, chatty rounds as you like.
Brunch, Refreshments and Gifts
Catered by the Minneapolis Club, enjoy brunch and refreshments before or between rounds in the lovely Mayfair Room. Recognition gifts will be granted for skill and luck. All attendees receive a canvas gift bag.

Limited Edition Mat
A limited edition 35" x 35" premium neoprene Mahjong mat has been designed especially for the Fall 2026 Mahjong Social Tournament. Created as a MahjPlay x Wren Mats collaboration, the mat features our playfully elegant Swedish Gopher, Nordic folk-art-inspired botanicals, and the warm autumn palette of the event.
Designed to bring a polished, whimsical, and beautifully hosted feel to any Mahjong table, this special event mat makes a wonderful keepsake from the tournament and a thoughtful gift for a Mahjong friend, host, or table mate.
Guests may reserve the mat during registration for pickup at the event. Mats are available to reserve through September 6, 2026.
Gifts & Lucky Drawings
Each guest will receive a curated gift bag and opportunities to receive recognition gifts through both play and chance. A Winning Hand Recognition Gift will be awarded to the player with the highest cumulative score across the designated scored games. One guest will be selected by drawing to receive a Lucky Wind Recognition Gift. Additional recognition gifts and drawing opportunities will be offered throughout the three Dragon Rounds, celebrating strong hands, social-play Mahjong wins, memorable moments, and a little tournament-day luck. Players at both Casual and Lively tables will be eligible.
Ticket purchase is for event admission, hospitality, food and beverage and event participation. No purchase is a wager, bet, stake or payment into a prize pool.
Tournament Format
Tournament play will unfold across three 60-minute themed rounds: Red Dragon, Green Dragon, and White Dragon. The first game of each round will be the designated scored game. After that game is complete, tables may continue with social play for the remainder of the round. Mahjong wins during social play may also earn entries for prize drawings. Players will be seated and rotated using the rate-of-play preference provided in their Player Profile. We will do our best to create tables with a compatible rhythm while making any adjustments needed to accommodate attendance and complete tables. • Casual Play: a relaxed rhythm, generally completing 1–2 games per hour • Lively Play: a consistent rhythm of 3 games per hour Unfinished scored games will receive no score. Scoring will use the 2026 National Mah Jongg League card and a simplified tournament system that recognizes winning hands, self-drawn Mahjong, eligible jokerless hands, wall games, and attentive defensive play. Complete scoring instructions will be provided before tournament play begins. Players at every pace will be eligible for recognition gifts and prize drawings. The format is designed to keep the day organized and engaging while preserving the warmth of a social Mahjong gathering.
Round One: Red Dragon
Settle in, meet your table, and begin the day with a warm first round of scored social play.
Round Two: Green Dragon
Continue through curated tables and steady gameplay with room for conversation and connection.
Round Three: White Dragon
Close the tournament with a polished final round before prizes and lucky drawings.
Who Should Attend
This event is designed for players who know the basics of American Mah Jongg and are comfortable participating in a game without formal instruction. No previous tournament or scoring experience is necessary. Confident beginners, intermediate, and experienced players are all welcome. When completing their Player Profile, players will select the rate-of-play preference that best reflects the table experience they will enjoy. This preference is not a ranking of skill or ability; it simply helps us seat players with a compatible rhythm. Occasional questions and friendly guidance are welcome at Casual Play tables. Players selecting Lively Play should be comfortable making decisions independently and helping maintain a consistent pace. Interested in building your confidence before the event? All admission sales are final and non-refundable. Player substitutions are permitted by updating the Player Profile. For late and event-day substitutions, the replacement player may be seated according to original player’s profile. We kindly request advance notice of cancellations and substitutions where possible so we can maintain accurate table assignments and event communications.
Our MahjPlay scoring system aligns to National Mah Jongg League recommendations and recognizes successful hands, special accomplishments and attentive defensive play. For this event, scoring is designed to be fair to all players, including those new to scoring and tournaments.

The Club Dress Code
A distinguished hallmark of the Minneapolis Club is the expectation of proper attire. During your time at the clubhouse, the Club dress code is relaxed decorum.
Women
- Slacks, dresses, or skirts of appropriate length, or dress shorts with appropriate tops.
- Denim in good repair is allowed.
Men
- Slacks with an appropriate dress shirt, sports shirt, or sweater.
- A sports coat is recommended, but not required.
- Denim in good repair is allowed.
- Shorts, hats, or caps are not appropriate attire.
